V-scarf

Toen ik een aantal jaar geleden begon met haken maakte ik vooral amigurumi en was mijn favoriete haaknaald de 2.5mm. Tot ik op een gegeven moment een patroon van een sjaal tegenkwam die ik meteen wilde maken. Het was zo'n project waardoor je te laat naar bed gaat, waar je 's nachts over droomt en waardoor je 's ochtends blij opstaat met de gedachte: 'ik heb iets leuks vandaag, wat was het ook alweer... Oh ja mijn sjaal!' Kennen jullie dat?

When I started crocheting a couple of years ago I mostly made amigurumi, and consequently my favourite hook was 2.5mm. One day I stumbled upon the pattern of a scarf I immediately wanted to make. It was such a project that makes you go to bed too late, of which you dream at night and makes you wake up with the thought: 'I've got a fun day ahead of me, what is it... Oh yeah, my scarf!' Do you know that feeling?

Het patroon waar ik het over heb kan je hier vinden: klik! Het is een heel eenvoudig patroon (daarom vond ik het toen waarschijnlijk zo'n leuk patroon ;) het bestaat voornamelijk uit stokjes. Het enige waar je echt even goed op moet letten zijn de kleurwisselingen.

The pattern I'm talking about is a pattern from Garnstudio, you can find it here: click! The pattern is super easy (I guess that's what appealed to me then ;) the only thing you have to think about are the colour changes every now and then. 

De foto's die je hier ziet zijn niet van die eerste sjaal, die was meer in de paars/blauw tinten zoals het origineel. Ik heb die sjaal een paar jaar gedragen, vorig jaar wilde ik een nieuwe maken, met andere kleuren. Ik vind het heerlijk om die eerste sjaal te maken, dus ik had heel veel zin om 'm opnieuw te maken. En hier is 'ie dan! Het is grappig om de twee sjaals naast elkaar te zien, ik ben in de loop van de jaren (gelukkig) veel regelmatiger gaan haken.

The pictures I'm showing here isn't that first scarf I made, that one had purple/blue colours. I have worn the scarf a couple of winters and last year I wanted to make a new one, with different colours. I loved making the first one, so I really wanted to make it again. And here it is! It's funny seeing those two scarfs next to each other, in those years my crocheting has become more evenly (luckily!)

De sjaal bestaat uit zes kleuren. Ik hou van blauwtinten, en ik hou van de combinatie van blauw met oker, dus dat werden mijn hoofdkleuren. Mijn winterjas is grijs, dus dat moest de rand worden. Dan tenslotte nog wat wit en lichtbruin als neutrale kleuren. Ik heb gehaakt met Drops Eskimo op naald 7. De kleuren die ik heb gebruikt (elke bol twee keer) zijn:

- naturel (01)

- lichtbeige (47)

- donkergeel (74)

- lichtblauw (12)

- donkerblauw (15)

- lichtblauw/grijs (52)

The scarf is made out of six colours. I love blues and I like how blues combine with ochre, so these would be my main colours. My winter coat is grey, so I wanted to the scarf to have a grey border. Then finally some white and light brown as neutrals. I have used Drops Eskimo and hook 7mm. The colours that I have used (two skeins of each colour) are:

- off white (01)

- light beige (47)

- dark yellow (74)

- light blue (12)

- navy blue (15)

- light blue grey (52)

Het is best een stoere, grove sjaal, maar door de rand en de gaten in het midden vind ik 'm ook wel weer schattig. Het is echt een heerlijk patroon, je haakt zo een aantal rijen weg. Nu ik de foto's weer goed bekijk begint het alweer te kriebelen, misschien haak ik 'm binnenkort in roze tinten?

It is quite a sturdy, bulky scarf, but the border and the holes make it cute as well. The pattern is so much fun to make, before you know it you have crocheted a few rows. Now that I think about it, maybe I could make a new one this winter, maybe in pink tones?

Fallen leaves

De patronen van Wieke van Keulen zijn prachtig! Toen ik op de vorige Brei- en Haakdagen veel van haar patronen in het echt zag werd ik verliefd op het patroon Fallen leaves. Zo mooi! 

The patterns made by Wieke van Keulen are gorgeous! When I saw a lot of her patterns on the Brei- en Haakdagen ('knit and crochet days') I fell in love with the pattern Fallen leaves. So beautiful! 

Ik had al eerder eens een patroon van Wieke van Keulen gemaakt, namelijk de Diamond lace scarf, en dit patroon haakt net zo prettig. 

I made an other scarf by Wieke van Keulen before, the Diamond lace scarf, and this pattern is just as nice to make. 

Naast het feit dat ik verliefd werd, werd ik ook verliefd op het garen dat ik heb gebruikt. Echt, het is het allerzachtste garen dat je ooit gevoeld hebt! Ik heb gehaakt met Vinnis Colours Serina, een garen uit Zuid-Afrika van 100% bamboe. Het is zo super zacht! Ik heb het garen gekocht bij Draadkracht.

Beside the fact that I fell in love with the pattern, I fell in love with the yarn I have used for this scarf. Really, it is the softest yarn you have ever felt! I crocheted with Vinnis Colours Serina, yarn from South-Africa made of 100% bamboo. It is sooo soft! 

Het is geen goedkoop garen, maar het is het echt waard. Het haakt heerlijk, het garen glijdt zo zacht langs je vingers. Ik heb gekozen voor de kleur Sunray. Ik had zeven bolletjes nodig, een daar van zit in de frutsels aan het eind van de sjaal dus als je daar niet van houdt kom je met zes bolletjes ook uit.

The yarn is not cheap, but so worth it. I like to crochet with it, the yarn slides so smoothly between your fingers. I chose the colour Sunray and used seven skeins. I used one skein for the fringe, so if you don't like fringe you can just use six skeins.

Unicat Shouthbay

In mijn vorige blogpost schreef ik over Unicat, mijn nieuwe ontdekte liefde :) Ik kocht mijn tweede bol bij Blij dat ik brei en wilde daarmee een Southbay sjaal maken. Dat is goed gelukt!

In my last blogpost I wrote about Unicat, my new found love :) I bought my second skein at Blij dat ik brei and I wanted to make a Southbay shawl out of it. That worked out well!

Het patroon voor de Southbay sjaal kan overal op internet gevonden worden. Het patroon is niet moeilijk, maar je moet wel opletten waar je mee bezig bent. Ik haakte met een 3.5mm naald.

The pattern for the Southbay shawl can be found everywhere on the internet. The pattern isn't difficult, but you still have to pay attention to what you are doing. I used a 3.5 hook.

Ik vond de kleuren van mijn eerste Unicat bol al prachtig, maar deze kleuren zijn helemaal geweldig. Ik denk dat dat komt doordat de groene en blauwe kleuren dichter bij elkaar liggen, waardoor het eindresultaat, de sjaal, meer een geheel is dan de roze-groene.

I really loved the colours of my first Unicat skein, but the colours of this skein are even more amazing. I think that is due to the fact that the green and blue tones are more alike, so the end result, the scarf, is more of a whole than the pink-green one.

Daar is 'ie dan! Gaaf he! Ik heb m'n sjaal nadat 'ie af was geblokt (natgemaakt en vastgepind). Dat was voor mij voor het eerst, maar ik ben heel blij dat ik het heb gedaan, het patroon komt er echt veel beter door uit! 

There he is! Isn't it a gorgeous shawl? I blocked my shawl as soon as I finished it (making the scarf wet and then pinning it on a hard surface). I used this technique for the first time and I am glad I did, because the pattern is so much more visible after blocking!

Diamond lace scarf

De patronen van Wieke van Keulen  zijn fantastisch! Ze zijn romantisch maar toch modern, en ik ben door haar van kanten haakwerk gaan houden. Het is best ingewikkeld in het begin, je moet op blijven letten, maar het resultaat is heel gaaf! Mijn eerste Wieke-patroon was de square lace triangle. Zodra die af was werd 'ie ingepikt door mijn moeder, dus ik heb helaas geen foto's ;) Op de Haakmeet kocht ik bij Kralalien voor het eerst een bol Unicat. Ik had daar al vaker over gehoord en ik was wel benieuwd, maar zodra ik die prachtige bollen voor het eerst in het echt zag was ik verkocht! Dat kleurverloop! Eenmaal thuis kon ik niet wachten om te beginnen aan mijn volgende project met mijn Unicat: de diamon lace scarf  van Wieke van Keulen!

The patterns by Wieke van Keulen are amazing! They are romantic but at the same time modern. Wieke made me love lace crochet. It is quite difficult at first, you have to pay attention to your stitches, but the results are awesome! My first Wieke-pattern was the square lace triangle which was 'stolen' by my mother as soon as I finished it, so I don't have any pictures ;) At the 'Haakmeet' (crochet meeting) I bought my first skein of Unicat yarn at Kralalien. I had heard about Unicat before, and I was curious about it, but as soon as I saw those skeins in real life I was addicted. Those colours! As soon as I arrived home with my Unicat I started my next project: the diamond lace scarf by Wieke van Keulen!

Onweerstaanbaar! Irresistible!

Unicat bestaat uit vier draden die om de beurt van kleur veranderen. Ik begon in het midden van de bol en had daar vier draadjes donker roze, vervolgens werd na een flink stuk één draadje donker roze licht roze enzovoort, tot aan drie draadjes donker groen aan het einde. Het kleurverloop is daardoor heel subtiel.

Unicat consists of four strands of yarn, which change colour really slowly. I started in the middle of the cake, and began with four strands of dark pink. After a while, one strand of dark pink was replaced with a light pink strand, and so on until I finished with four dark green strands. That makes the colour changes lovely subtle. 

Super gaaf he, dat patroon! Je werkt in de breedte van de sjaal, dus langzaam maar zeker komt het patroon te voorschijn. Ik heb gehaakt met naald 3.5.

Isn't the pattern awesome? You crochet along the short side of the scarf, and eventually the pattern comes alive! I used a 3.5 hook for this scarf.

Mijn bol Unicat was 900 meter lang. Super lang zou je zeggen, maar ik vond mijn sjaal net iets te kort en dus heb ik franje toegevoegd. In mijn katoen stash vond ik twee bolletjes die perfect pasten bij de kleuren van de Unicat en ik vind het effect best geinig!

My Unicat skein was 900 meters long. Quite long, but not long enough for this scarf. I decided to add fring at both ends of the scarf. I happened to find two skeins of cotton in my stash which matched with the Unicat quite well. I like the effect on the scarf!

Vlak nadat ik deze sjaal af had heb ik een nieuwe bol Unicat gekocht, daarover binnenkort meer!

Right after I fnished this scarf I bought another skein of Unicat, more about that skein later!
